Lee
Lee Roy Selmon's story combines football scholarships for his family as well as service to the community. At first his parents raised him by Lucious Selmon and Jessie on their Eufala farm. He was the smallest of nine kids. It was also the only one of three brothers who played for Oklahoma on the field of football. Three brothers all made All-American teams. The year 1973 was the first time Lee Roy and Lucious Jr. Dewey were the starting line-up for just one year. Lee Roy was named the best offensive lineman in the nation by Outland, Lombardi and the Outland Awards. Oklahoma had two National Championships throughout his three-year tenure as the starting linebacker. In 1975, he was awarded his third scholarship, and was named the National Football Foundation scholar-athlete. Selmon received a degree in Education. Lee Roy dedicated ten volunteer hours per week during the course of his college. After college he settled in Tampa played nine years with the Buccaneers was all-pro three times and started a business career. In 1988, he was an Account Relations Officer for Tampa's First Florida Bank and worked with these groups: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute on Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. It's no wonder in 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce named him one of the nation's the top 10 most promising young men. In his student days, Lee Roy was 6-2 and weighted 256 lbs. He played for his school's team in the year 1975. He was hired by the University of South Florida in 1993 as an Associate Director of Sports. He was named associate director of athletics by the College Football Hall of Fame recognized him in 1998. GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame, in 1994. Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. He and his parents Lucious and Mary Selmon Jr. have been awarded the Distinguished American Award in 1989 from the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor of Oklahoma who conferred this award.
