April Ross
April Ross has won more than one Olympic medal. She is among only a handful of female players of beach volleyball to be able to do so. Alix-Klineman will be competing with April Ross in Tokyo in order to claim her third gold medal over the next couple of days. Ross hopes to win the Olympic the first medal of gold however, she also hopes to earn even more. At 39, it could be her last opportunity to do so. But she's convinced that the top awards are within reach. If we do our highest or perform well, I think we'll win the gold medal Ross declared on NBC Boston. So I'm going to take some luck as well. Ross, who was born 1982 and was raised in Costa Mesa California with her mother and sister, first began participating in the sports of Newport Harbor High School. In addition to playing in numerous sports, Ross also attended Newport Harbor High School. Her pre-athletic career comprised indoor volleyball as well as basketball, running and track. She stood out however at this level. Based on her bio, she was a middle blocker and an outside volleyball player during her senior year at high school. As a tribute to her efforts, she received the Gatorade Award for the National Player of 1999. Her skills in volleyball brought her the Orange County Athlete of the Year award in the year 2000. Ross is currently playing with Klineman since 2017, but Ross's beach game was established well before that. In fact, she won numerous major events with two different partners, one of which is an icon of volleyball. Jennifer Kessy was her partner during six years between 2007 and the year 2013. She also worked with Klineman and herself. Ross, the teammate of Kessy's, who was the winner of the world championship with Kessy in 2009, was also an important player on the world stage. This duo went into winning a silver in the 2012 Olympic Games at London. Misty May, Kerri Walsh and Kerri Jennings were the team to beat for the gold. Ross Jennings became Walsh Jennings partner in fate when Maytreanor retired. Together, they took home beach volleyball bronze for the Rio Olympics in the year 2016. Ross began her collegiate time with the Trojans at USC in her high school days. It was a long time before Ross made her debut on the sand and turned pro. Her time at the school was a memorable one. In 2000 she was voted Pac-10 Freshman as well as NCAA Freshman Of The Year, and was also an All-American. The Trojans could also reach the Final Four with her help. After her sophomore year, she experienced a terrible personal loss, yet earned the distinction of being an All-American. In her last two years, she took the Trojans to the top of the mountain and won consecutive national titles. Her individual achievements have cemented her as a volleyball legend. She was awarded the Honda Sports Award 2003-04 for the best female college player. Ross was a student at USC in International Relations. Unfortunately Ross mother Margie did not get to see her daughter ascend to the very top of beach volleyball fame. Ross's mother died of cancer of the breast when she was a sophomore in USC. Ross holds her mother very dearly. Margie, on the beach as well as in everyday life, inspires her.
